MailMate is a little “heavier” and not as pretty, but it has always worked flawlessly for me and does everything I could ever want. Considering how much time I spend in email, these little annoyances add up. I then started seeing messages in “smart” mailboxes that should not have been there. I tried every combination of changing/removing/re-adding SMTP credentials/servers/accounts but could not get it working right. With MailMate, a message is not in the Archive mailbox unless it has been explicitly archived. What I ended up doing instead is to go back to MailMate. With some 60000+ mails MailMate performs perfectly ok, search is really fast. The official releases are of course more stable but also less fun. Nothing bad has happened however, just need to restart. The application crash about ones a day on average. I’m running nightly builds and have activated “Experimental 2.0 features”. The development of MailMate is active to put it mildly. This takes care of most of my mail interaction. I have set up my own key bindings so “i” will select the inbox, “a” will archive mail, “d” will delete them, “f” flag them and “r” for making a reply. With MailMate I use smart folders extensively and just archive all mails in one “Archive” mailbox instead. MailMate is the e-mail client for power users in my opinion.
